Blandsæd giver dig flere muligheder i dit markbrug Organic Eprints
Mejnertsen, Peter.

Gunst, Lucie; Krebs, Heinz; Dubois, D.; Forrer, H.-R..
In the DOK long-term field trial in Switzerland comparing bio-dynamic, bio-organic, and conventional farming systems, the occurrence of Fusarium species and Microdochium nivale on grains of wheat was investigated from 1997 to 2003. Although no differences between the farming systems were found, the previous crop, the fertilisation level, and the year significantly influenced the disease incidence. In 2003, the effect of the pre-crops potatoes versus silage-maize on fusaria was compared. As expected, the incidence of fusaria was significantly higher after maize compared with potatoes. However, the main responsible species was not F. graminearum but F. poae. This species is known for the production of hazardous toxins. A greater input of fertiliser resulted...

Multiple diseases, host resistance and the role of variety mixtures for disease control in organically grown spring barley Organic Eprints
Pinnschmidt, Hans; Vollmer, Jeanette H.; Hovmøller, Mogens S.; Munk, Lisa; Østergård, Hanne.
The presence of more than one disease at the same time is common in farmers’ fields. The use of disease resistant varieties is one of the most important disease management components in organic farming. While many modern spring barley cultivars possessing good resistance to individual diseases are available today, cultivars resistant to multiple diseases are still scarce because breeding for multiple disease resistance is a difficult and lengthy task. Mixing cultivars possessing high levels of resistance to individual diseases may be a good option to control multiple diseases in ecological farming. Research is underway in Denmark in which the effects of resistance properties of spring barley varieties on the development of two important foliar diseases,...

SIMULATING WINTER WHEAT YIELD AND NITROGEN LEACHING FROM ORGANIC AND CONVENTIONAL CROP ROTATIONS Organic Eprints
Doltra, Jordi; Ølsen, Jørgen E.; Lægdsmand, Mette.
This work evaluates the effects of growing a green manure crop or a legume crop in winter wheat yield and on nitrate leaching, in an irrigated crop rotation. Results are also compared with a conventional cropping system. Simulations with the field version of the FASSET model (Berntsen et al., 2003) were done to evaluate the performance of the model to predict winter wheat dry matter yield. The simulated leaching from the different cropping systems was evaluated during the rotation period.
